Paleogeographic Reconstruction of the Paleozoic Lhasa Terrane Through Detrital Zircon Mixing Modeling

چکیده
A late Mesoproterozoic detrital zircon (DZ) age population, which was previously considered diagnostic of a link between the Lhasa terrane and northwest Australia, occurs in other Gondwanan components, thus obscuring paleogeographic position Gondwana. Here we compiled large-n (n ≥ 300) DZ U-Pb data from potential source regions various proposed reconstructions, attempted to synthesize spectra through mixing modeling. Our modeling results support Permo-Carboniferous having received sediment NW Australia (mainly Perth basin) rather than India or Africa. This, combination with stratigraphic paleontological evidence northern margin eastern Gondwana positions Paleozoic adjacent boundary India. This study suggests that method based on can be used effectively for constraining reconstruction continents.

East-derived sandstones contain a 23 suite of zircons with a mean age of ca 487 Ma that suggests derivation fr...
متن کاملLate-Proterozoic to Paleozoic history of the peri-Gondwana Calabria–Peloritani Terrane inferred from a review of zircon chronology
U-Pb analyses of zircon from ten samples of augen gneisses, eight mafic and intermediate metaigneous rocks and six metasediments from some tectonic domains along the Calabria-Peloritani Terrane (Southern Italy) contribute to knowledge of peri-Gondwanan evolution from Late-Proterozoic to Paleozoic times. All samples were equilibrated under amphibolite to granulite facies metamorphism during the ...
متن کاملSignificant seismic anisotropy beneath the southern Lhasa Terrane, Tibetan Plateau
[1] Shear wave splitting measurements using teleseismic PKS, SKKS, and SKS phases recorded by station LSA on the southern part of the Lhasa Terrane of the Tibetan Plateau reveal significant azimuthal anisotropy with a splitting time of up to 1.5 s, a conclusion that is contradictory to previous studies which suggested isotropy or weak anisotropy. In addition, systematic variations of the splitt...
متن کاملDetrital Avalonian zircons in the Laurentian Southern Uplands Terrane, Scotland
The Siluro-Ordovician Southern Uplands terrane occupies a key position in the Caledonian Orogen, yet its genesis is controversial. Marginal basin, back-arc and forearc tectonic regimes, operative at the Laurentian margin of the Iapetus Ocean, have all been invoked. Fresh andesitic detritus within turbidite sandstones has, until now, been assumed to provide evidence for an Ordovician, supra-subd...
متن کاملExhuming the Alps through time: clues from detrital zircon fission-track thermochronology
The European Alps are a mountain belt that is characterized by a series of discrete orogenic events, which have long been recognized. Despite the inherent episodic nature of orogenic evolution, the Alps have been continuously exhumed, mainly by erosion, but also by normal faulting. Since continental collision started in the late Eocene/Early Oligocene evidence for ongoing erosional exhumation h...
